The hottest exhibition of the year reveals the secrets of Arctic dating and mating with a dash of hay barn romance and summer meadow. The Hot Stuff exhibition is open in the Arktikum Science Centre from the 2nd of June 2017 to the 22nd of April 2018.

The intriguing subject is opened through fantastic
facts, passionate pictures and erotic artefacts as well as stories. The exhibition
about sex closes The Survivors trilogy of the Arktikum Science Centre while previous
parts told the stories of Arctic tree and food. The exhibition continues to open the
means of survival – sheltering, eating and shagging – of Northern people in the
harsh Arctic environment.

– Without reproduction there
wouldn’t be life, and what kind of means the life has come up with. There are sperm
pumps, cloacae and orgasms as well as courtship, harems and life-long faithfulness,
describes science communicator Marjo Laukkanen from Arctic Centre at the University
of Lapland.

Erotic stories were gathered from the public.
There were over sixty replies and the best were chosen to be part of the
sexhibition. Two penis bones are also on display, one of which is from the mammal
species that has most massive baculum of the animal kingdom.

The sexual content of the exhibition is mentioned outside the
Science Centre exhibition room.

– We want to respect
families with small children as well as visitors with different cultural
backgrounds, tells exhibition designer Anna Hyvönen.

The
Hot Stuff honors the year of celebrations of both Finland and Arktikum. The
exhibition is, after all, dedicated to generations before us.

– Thank you for dating and mating! Without it there wouldn’t be us, Laukkanen
and Hyvönen say laughingly.
