Professor Paula Kankaanpää, director of the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland, will move to the Finnish Environmental Institute (SYKE), based in Helsinki. Starting in August, she will take the position as the new Director of the Marine Research Centre.

Professor Kankaanpää has acted as the Director of the Arctic
Centre since year 2000. She acted also as the Vice Rector of the University of
Lapland years 2006-2009. She is a member in many national and international networks
of Arctic science and cooperation. Kankaanpää is a geographer and her PhD was
related to sea ice research.
