Sirpa Rasmus appointed as University Researcher in the Arctic Centre
The position is part of the Global Change research programme of the Arctic Centre.
Sirpa Rasmus, Doctor of Philosophy, has been appointed
to the position of University Researcher at the Arctic Centre at the University of
Lapland as of 1 November 2024.
Rasmus has a background in
geophysics and received her PhD from the University of Helsinki in 2005. Her
dissertation research was on the structure of snow cover and its changes. Over the
last ten years, her research approach has become increasingly multidisciplinary and
interdisciplinary, and her research questions have broadened to include the effects
of a changing climate on northern livelihoods and their adaptation. She works in
particular on adaptation in reindeer husbandry, but has also studied issues related
to fisheries, agriculture and forestry.
Rasmus has
worked for several years at the Arctic Centre in temporary positions, most recently
in the coordination team of the EU-Horizon-funded CHARTER project, in the AROSS and
POVAUS projects, and in a collaborative network of various projects on climate
change adaptation in Lapland.
The role of the university
researcher combines natural science research on global change drivers with research
on resilience and adaptation of northern livelihoods.
