Well-known Danish architect Claus Bonderup visits Arktikum in Rovaniemi where a bronze bust of him will be on display. The statue was gifted to Arktikum by the artist Kirsten Tofte Jensen.

Architect and professor emeritus Claus Bonderup lead the Danish
architect team who won the international architecture competition that was held to
design the Arktikum in 1980’s. Danish architects won the competition with their
proposal The Inextinguishable. The winning proposal was considered to be unique and
it highlighted Arctic nature in a special way with it’s illuminated “icy finger”
pointing the north.

The Arktikum building was opened in
1992. After completion, it offered a home for Arctic scientific research and
communications as well as for history of Lapland.

Claus
Bonderup has created a large number of edifices and designs as well as city plans.
Among the most renowned are the Høje Tåstrup city plan and the palace of the Kuwaiti
Sheik Salkem Al-Ali Al-Sabah. Bonderup became a professor at Aalborg University 1997
and his works are represented in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern
Art in New York.

The bust will be on display in Arktikum
from April 16th 2019.
