The active updating of the content on the ArcticFinland.fi website and the ArcticFinland newsletter will be suspended for the time being. Basic information and documents concerning Finland’s Arctic activities are available on the website, and they will still be kept up to date.

The changes will affect the topical section, news and
event updates on the www.arcticfinland.fi website, as well as the
newsletter and Twitter accounts. Monitoring Finnish Arctic news will be suspended,
and no new materials will be produced.

The Twitter accounts
@arcticfinlandia and @arktinensuomi will be suspended for now. Those interested in
Arctic themes are encouraged to follow the Arctic Centre Twitter account @arctic_centre and Facebook @arcticcentre.

The
Science Communications of the Arctic Centre at the University Lapland launched the
ArcticFinland website in 2011 to gather together information on Finland’s
Arctic activities, as part of the national role of the Arctic Centre. Initially, the
site collected basic Arctic information and key documents, such as the national
Arctic policies. For Finnish Chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2017–2019, the
website received IBA funding from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and ERDF funding
from the Lapland Regional Council, and it was possible to develop the site
actively.

There has been no external funding for the site
since the Arctic Council Chairmanship, and materials have been produced only with
Arctic Centre resources. The austerity measures adopted by the University of Lapland
have affected the resources available. ArcticFinland will still remain the source of
information on Finland’s basic Arctic operations, and the site can be
reactivated at a later date.
