Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation awarded a total of €16.1 million to projects in science, arts, and societal activities through its general grant application process. The foundation awarded a total of €186,000 to the University of Lapland.

One of the grant recipients is Nadezhda
Filimonova, a postdoctoral researcher at the Arctic Centre who works in the Arctic
Governance research group.

The grant
was awarded to Filimonova’s post-doctoral research project Waste
Solutions Without Borders: Pathways for Circular Solid Waste Management in
Peripheral Finnish Swedish Border Twin Cities (TWINCIRC)
with amount of
€36,000.

The research examines how
cross-border cooperation can promote waste management based on circular economy and
produce new administrative and practical solutions to support sustainable
development.
