Nature Photographs of the Year 2024 can be seen in Arktikum Science Centre
The Nature Photograph of the Year is a unique and perfectly captured photo of a flock of ruffs. Last year’s most amazing nature photos are on display at Arktikum Science Centre until the end of May.
The Winner of the competition was “Ruuhka” by Timo
Mylläri. The judges were impressed by the breathtaking speed that was perfectly
captured at the right moment.
– Unique shot of a flying flock of
ruffs. The entire image is full of the intensity of spring. The photo captives the
viewer immediately. This perfectly at the right moment captured photo shows also the
communication between the ruffs. Every bird in the photo follows the other bird and
reacts to its movements, the jury characterizes.
The goal of the
competition is to highlight the beaty and diversity of Finnish nature. This was the
44th time the competition was held. This year it collected a total of 12 116 photos
from 774 different photographers.
The competition featured nine
categories: Plants and Fungi, Birds, Landscapes, Mammals, Other Animals, Nature
Details and Shapes, Human and Nature, Youth, and Black and White.
